Piers Morgan calls Harry and Meghan's Netflix deal 'beyond parody', says titles not experience got them gig

Morgan claimed that Netflix signed the couple 'because they're royal, titled' and 'can generate spectacular global media attention just by breaking wind in public'

Piers Morgan has questioned why Netflix has offered Prince Harry and Meghan Markle a multi-million dollar deal considering their relative lack of experience in Hollywood and claimed their hypocrisy and elitism will show in anything they produce. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who recently founded a yet-to-be-named production company, signed a multi-year deal with Netflix this past week believed to worth around $150 million under which they will be paid for making documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows, and children’s programming.

In an op-ed for the Daily Mail, Piers Morgan, a vocal critic of the couple, said it was an "amazing achievement" that they managed to secure such a startling amount of money considering their "combined experience of producing anything in Hollywood could be written on the back of a postage stamp."

He said their joint CV could be summed up with information about how "Meghan was a suitcase girl on Deal or No Deal and an actress on Suits, a TV show made in Canada" and how Harry has shown "real thespian promise with his hostage video performances on camera during lockdown."

Morgan claimed that Netflix did not sign the couple for their experience and that they were hired "because they're royal, titled" and "can generate spectacular global media attention just by breaking wind in public." He said the streaming company, which has 193 million subscribers worldwide, was betting on "media attention generating enough new subscribers to justify the massive price tag."

The 'Good Morning Britain' host went on to pick apart Netflix co-CEO and chief content officer Ted Sarandos' statement where he wrote Harry and Meghan had "inspired millions of people all around the world with their authenticity, optimism, and leadership" and said it was just "disingenuous sycophantic drivel."

"How could anyone possibly feel 'inspired' by Meghan and Harry's 'authenticity, optimism and leadership' or 'resilience' given that they've spent the past two years whining, quitting, living off rich people and preaching about equality from their position of supreme elitism?" Morgan argued, before adding that the couple's statement, too, was "comically absurd."

Announcing the deal, Harry and Meghan had said that their lives had "allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection," something Morgan questioned. "This is the same Meghan and Harry who've gutlessly run away from royal duty, and disconnected themselves from everyone and everything, to become shameless money-grabbing celebrities - right?" he asked.

He also slammed them for claiming they wanted to make "inspirational family programming," by writing, "Two people who've so heartlessly and ruthlessly deserted their own families are now going to be telling us how to be good families?"

Morgan said the Netflix deal was "beyond parody" before going to present a few of the "hyper-woke, self-serving productions" viewers could expect to see from the couple. These included shows such as 'How To Have Your Royal Cake and Eat It,' a poke at how they were exploiting their royal status, 'Around The World in 80 Private Jets,' which highlighted their hypocrisy in environmental matters, as well as 'Meat the Parent Fockers,' 'The Frown,' and more.
